 In the Field of Governance

ARAA has joined USAID/CDP (Capacity building program for NGOs) in the beginning of 2007 as partner to acquire capacity building training on seven thematic subjects, i.e., Human Resource Management, Organizational Governance, Project Management, Strategic Planning, Financial Management, Fundraising, and Gender Integration. The CDP program was designed for a period of three years, with each subject being delivered in three steps to 15 LNGOs in Herat province. However, due to a changes in the strategic planning of CDP, the program was not completed. Thus, a decision was made to select one LNGO out of the 15 to acquire the needed training and deliver the courses to other partners. ARAA is proud of being chosen as the delivery mechanism for this program. Our staff received all trainings and steps of the thematic subjects through a TOT (training of trainers) program.

With this newly acquired capacity, ARAA is capable of delivering capacity building trainings for NOGs, private sector institutions and governmental departments in the following governance areas:

  • Human Resources Management

  • Organizational Governance

  • Project Management

  • Strategic Planning

  • Financial Management

  • Fundraising

  • Gender Integration

Agricultural Opportunity Project

ARAA implemented various agricultural programs in western region, The most important agricultural project implemented by ARAA in western region was “Agricultural Opportunity Project”, which was a multi-component program under Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) process in Afghanistan. This project targeted the ex-combatants who entered the DDR process in four province, Herat, Farah, Badghis, and Ghor. The project was implemented in two phases, each phase covering 12 months (2004 – 2005). The project was supported by UNDP/ANBP, with a total beneficiary being around 2000 ex-combatants.This project had 7 components, i.e., gardening, vineyard, beekeeping, poultry, silkworm production, livestock, vegetables growing and wheat seed cultivation. The beneficiaries were free to select any of the components of the project to be provided to them, through servicing raw material inputs, tools plus training. ARAA was responsible for providing all selected packages to beneficiaries and help them use the packages as an occupation and income source for their livelihoods. Thus, ARAA was responsible for continuous regular monitoring and evaluation of the project activities and the progress that the project beneficiaries were making in their occupation, resulting in very positive reports that were delivered to UNDP/ANBP.

This was one of the most challenging integrated multi-component projects that ARAA ever implemented in the sector of agriculture/animal husbandry. For successful implementation, ARAA had recruited experienced agricultural and veterinarian specialists to mange all components of the project, while recording and learning lessons and experience from that project.

The impact and result of the project implementation was very satisfactory both to donors and to beneficiaries, and for ARAA, this was one of the best experiences acquired in the agriculture / animal husbandry sector.

The list and other details of agricultural projects will be provided upon request.

  • Backyard gardening and supply of packages to 100 women in Shagofan , Herat province

  • Partnership in planting of saplings to help for natural green area in to education department , Herat province
