Due to poor health, he is unable to work and doesn’t have stable income, his children cannot go to school and collect firewood for survival.
Introduction:
Case management with the client began in a safe and calm environment. The first step was to build trust by introducing myself, explaining my role and responsibilities, and assuring him that his words would be heard without judgment or unnecessary intervention. From his silence, it was clear that he carried a heavy burden and needed a secure space to focus and speak. He was encouraged to actively participate, provide information about himself, and was informed that all services would be delivered with his consent and in full collaboration with him.
Challenges Identified:
During the second session, discussions focused on his protection risks, needs, and protective factors. The client shared that he has six children and a sick wife suffering from tuberculosis. His children collect firewood for the family, while due to his old age and illness, he cannot work much. The family lives in a rented house but struggles to pay the rent.
The major risks identified included:
- Living in poverty
- Old age, tiredness, and illness
- Lack of community support
- No access to adequate health and hygiene services
Strengths and Protective Factors:
Despite these challenges, the client showed several strengths, including:
- Strong family unity
- Personal resilience and hope for life
- Emotional support from his wife
- His continuous effort to find work, even though opportunities are very limited due to his age and weakness
Interventions and Case Plan:
Together with the client, a plan was created based on his priority needs. The goals included:
- Provision of cash assistance to help cover treatment costs for himself and his wife
- Meeting the family’s basic needs such as food and shelter
- Supporting his medical treatment to reduce illness and fatigue
- Strengthening family stability and resilience
The cash assistance was provided in line with case management procedures, ensuring safe and timely delivery of support.
Outcome and Impact:
In the final session, the client expressed his happiness at being able to access the services. With the cash assistance, he was able to buy medicine for his wife, receive treatment for himself, and cover the family’s basic household needs. He reported feeling calm, healthier, and more hopeful. His family experienced reduced challenges, and he managed to restore a level of household stability.
Conclusion:
This success story demonstrates how case management, when conducted with trust, collaboration, and a focus on both needs and strengths, can bring meaningful change. The client not only received essential support but also regained hope, energy, and family harmony.
